Catholic Church Reacts To Father Mbaka's Controversial Political Statement

The Catholic Church has distanced itself from controversial clergyman and Non secular Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, who in a latest video, was seen berating former Anambra state governor and PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for refusing to brazenly donate to his ministry.

Yesterday, a video of Father Mbaka verbally attacking Peter Obi for not saying how a lot he was donating to his ministry at his church’s bazaar and annual harvest service, went viral.

“Pay attention, in order that we received’t be deceiving God. As you’re standing within the presence of those kids of God, inform God what you’ll do for Him… It means you don’t need to do something for God. Let me imagine in worry, however it is a political assertion. God hates stinginess. What I’m saying isn’t on your pleasure. I’m saying what’s going to save your life, in any other case, you and Atiku will fail. The best way you and Atiku are shifting will finish in disgrace.” he mentioned

Reacting to the controversy that the video has generated, the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, in an interview with The PUNCH, mentioned the diocese was not in assist of Mbaka’s feedback and that it was flawed for any priest to make political statements.

“The diocese isn’t in assist of any priest making political statements. The church is meant to be apolitical and the Bishops’ convention has mentioned that repeatedly. We aren’t speculated to make any political statements from the pulpit inside the context of Mass, that’s, church service. So, it could be flawed to face on the pulpit to make any political statements.

There’s a doc issued by the Bishops’ convention to that impact. So, he simply spoke on his personal, not representing the diocese. We aren’t anticipated to come back out brazenly to assist a specific candidate for any cause. The church legislation doesn’t settle for such a factor. So, it could be flawed for anyone (priest) to come back out and provides an endorsement to a specific candidate.” he mentioned

Talking additional, Achi mentioned that disciplinary motion in opposition to Mbaka can be carried out by the priest’s administrative head if the necessity arises.
