“Hmmmm…okay lemme discuss this with my mum, make sure you bring him over later today so that my mum and I can both confirm for ourselves.”

“Okay, you will see I’m saying the truth when you see him for yourself.”

“If you say so”

I discharged her and walked back to the restaurant wondering what I’ve gotten myself into. I thought I had escaped from this in the past, now it’s all coming back.

Mumsy was waiting for me when I reentered the restaurant.

“Sam, what’s going on with you and that girl, why were you shouting and quarrelling with her? She asked immediately with Hausa language when I sat close to her. There were customers in there with us.

“Mumsy, not here, let’s go inside.”

She followed me inside and I told her about my predicament. She wasn’t angry, neither was she surprised.

“I thought as much…” Was all mumsy could say after I finished narrating to her.

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

“I’ve seen see the boy in question, he really looks exactly like you, it got me thinking that there is the possibility that the boy is yours especially as I know you once played hanky panky with his mother. I almost wanted to call the girl and questioned her on the child’s true parentage, but on a second thought I decide to just let sleeping dog lie.”

“So its very possible that the boy is mine?” I asked fearing the worst.

“Yes, I think so.” Mumsy replied.

“But what if…. What am I going to do, I’m not ready to be a father o!”

“You should have thought of that before doing what you’re not supposed to be doing at your age. Anyways the deed is done and there’s no need crying over split milk. The child is ours, so we have no choice than to claim the child. If she agrees, I can start taking care of him on your behalf. You don’t have to do anything.”

I heaved a sigh of relief and hugged my mum tightly to myself. Thank God for my close relationship with my mum, but I just prayed she doesn’t inform my dad.

Becky called me about an hour later. She sounded so angry. I forgot I promised to call her.

“I’m so sorry sweetheart, mumsy has been keeping me so busy since morning” I said as way of apologising for not returning her call. She finally relented.

“I’m coming over to your place now. Where should i direct the bike man to?”

“Tell him Nanairaland city food and bar restaurant, the restaurant is popular.”

“Okay, I’m on my way, hope mumsy is around cos I want to meet her.”

“Yea, she is. Told her about you already.”

“Owk, I’m coming now.”

She ended the call and I went back to what I was doing before the call.
